Welcome

Aunties and Uncles is a Registered Charity with a trained co-ordinator who fosters links between children from vulnerable families and adult volunteers, who provides regular respite, mentoring, friendship and support.
The co-ordinator evaluates the needs of the families, recruit, assess and train adult volunteers (Aunties & Uncles), and link them together for ongoing support, education and friendship.
Aims and Objectives
- To “build a better life for children”.
- To provide a family support service to families whose children are socially and emotional at risk.
- To create an extended family and non-judgmental friendship network for families in need of support.
- To prevent the break-up of families and the necessity for children to be institutionalised by providing them with support of an aunty and uncle to whom they can turn to in time of crisis.
- To provide children with the opportunity to go away for weekends, holidays and during times of stress in their own home environment.
- To provide children with the opportunity to experience the stability and benefits of an ongoing extended family relationship (regular mentoring of life and social skills/values).
- To restore parents’ self-confidence by encouraging them to accept the responsibility of assessing the auntie/uncle, and taking part in the running of an independent relationship.
- To encourage volunteer aunties and uncles to take the initiative in creating a long term relationship with their new “family”.
- To encourage aunties and uncles, teachers, social workers, welfare officers, etc, to liaise whenever necessary to assist a child.
